10 SUSTAINABLE STOCKING FILLERS

We are now in December which only means 1 thing… Christmas!

Sustainable products definitely have a stigma that because they are sustainable it means that they are overpriced and too expensive. This ultimately puts people off buying.

But if you are wanting to make small changes to your lifestyle by being more sustainable and buying eco-friendly products for Christmas presents that aren't too expensive, here are 10 products that would make the perfect stocking fillers whilst not breaking the bank:

1) Organic Bath Soap

If you are trying to reduce the amount of plastic in your life and are wondering a good way to do so, using a bar of soap instead of buying soap contained in plastic bottles, is a perfect way to start.

There are loads of organic bar soaps that you can buy on the market, but one of the consumer favourites is Lucy Bee's Fragrance Free Natural Bar, made using 100% organic coconut oil - which is amazing for the skin. Not only are the soaps made from organic products, but they are cruelty tree, fairtrade, palm oil free, vegan and ethically made!

2) Bamboo Toothbrush

There are loads of bamboo toothbrushes on the market and these vary in price range.

But, they are really good gift to give someone who wants to take the leap from using a plastic toothbrush, and wants to be more eco-friendly.

Even if you don't want to use a bamboo toothbrush as your everyday choice, they are the perfect choice for a travel toothbrush instead of plastic.

3) Organic Cotton Socks

You can never go wrong with a pair of socks to help fill out your stocking!

So why not make the eco-friendly choice this year, and opt for an organic cotton pair of socks over normal socks?

There are loads of benefits with organic cotton for a fabric, to include - using far less water in the production and comes from crops which are not treated with pesticides.

There are an abundance of organic socks on the market so have a shop around to suit your needs based on the style and colour you want!

4) Eco-friendly bracelet

There are plenty of companies who sell eco-friendly bracelets and give a proportion back to environmental efforts.

One company that comes to mind is 4ocean bracelets. On their website they state that: "Every bracelet purchased funds the removal of one pound of trash from the ocean and coastlines"

They are produced by hand by Artisans in Indonesia, who are paid a living wage and treated ethically. Also, the bracelets are made from 100% post consumer waste, to include plastic bottles and glass bottles, with approximately 5% being made from reclaimed components found in the ocean.

5) Bamboo Combs

Bamboo is always a good sustainable alternative which is why it is used across many products.

Another product that is a good gift idea for a stocking filler is a bamboo comb. These vary in price, depending on where you buy them from, but they usually aren't too expensive.

Bamboo combs have a much softer feel than plastic or metal, are not as harsh on your hair and are good for de-tangling.  So it's a win win!

6) Organic cotton coin purse

A coin purse is the perfect present to give someone as a little gift to help people keep their loose change in one place!

There are several organic cotton coin purses available to buy on marketplaces such as Etsy, that are created by independent owners who use sustainable fabrics to create the purses.

7) Recycled note pad

In comparison to a normal paper notepad, you will probably pay slightly more for the next choice, but a recycled notepad is another great present idea that doesn't harm the planet.

Paperchase now offer a 'conscious living' collection, where they sell A5 notebooks which have been recycled from post-consumer coffee cups. It says under the description of the product that it actually took 8 recycled coffee cups, to make the entire notepad.

8) Re-usable coffee cup

I'm sure you have heard of these already, but might not have thought of them for a stocking filler.

Reusable coffee cups are another perfect gift to give someone at Christmas, if they want to start making small steps in becoming more sustainable in their lifestyle, yet they always stop off to buy a quick coffee to start their day.

These have been so popular hat places like Pret a Manger, Costa Coffee and Starbucks are allowing you to bring in your reusable cup and get a discount on your order.

9) Re-usable drinking straws

Probably the smallest item on the list in size, but definitely one of the most useful.

We are all guilty of using plastic straws for our drinks at home and when we are out, so a small way that we can help the environment is by using reusable metal or bamboo straws.

There are loads of these on the market, and so you have plenty of choice. They usually range in price depending on the finish and make you want, but they are worth it in the long term!
